Used to cover baskets of bread, brought to a new mother as gifts, these beautifully embroidered cloths are also used for other festive occasions. The way in which the baskets are tied up with ornamental woven bands are traditional, as is the form of the breads made to strengthen the nursing mother. In the corners are equal-armed crosses and “Mara locks” while the center has a large rhombic fertility design.
